19 years ago today, Chris and I got married on a clear spring night in Tennessee surrounded by family, friends, the scent of gardenias and what seemed like a zillion candles. Every year we attempt to do something special to celebrate- some years we plan weekend getaways, other years a date night at a favorite restaurant.
A few years ago, I took Chris for a weekend getaway on Bainbridge Island, in Puget Sound near Seattle. With some online sleuthing, I found what sounded like the perfect spot, Ashton Woods Retreat.
We were able to make 2 trips there before they closed in 2011. It was the PERFECT romantic getaway. I am a wee bit picky when it comes to places we stay, (ok~ maybe other things too…just ask Chris! “I like it the way I like it” has been said so many times it’s become a joke in our family.)
I would not have changed a single thing about Ashton Woods.
Steven was our host and made us feel so welcome and comfortable- and he makes a killer breakfast! I still dream about his scones… I loved all the little extra touches like the notes we would find tucked into our breakfast basket every morning, and the over the top romantic room transformation he did when we were at dinner one night. Steven also has 4 golden retrievers, so he was instantly a soul mate!
We loved it there, adored Steven and his pups and wish him well wherever he is now. Ashton Woods was a one of a kind place, and I will never forget our little romantic spot in the forest of Bainbridge Island.
