I am in love with Flytographer.
Have you heard of them? Started by Nicole Smith in 2013, Flytographer is a company connects you with local professional photographers based in 171 cities all over the globe. The premise is to help travelers capture photo memories that they will love once they get home- no selfies needed!
Flytographer takes the type of photos that you dream of having.
(Like the one above of my teenagers, often arguing and picking at each other- here is a priceless candid moment with them being silly.)
I cannot tell you how many crazy family travel selfies we have, I’m sure you know the type I mean. Heads cut off, everyone crammed together only to be blocking the background we so desperately wanted to have in the photo with us. What a gift to have photos of our family in the beautiful city that has become home to us!
After reading about Flytographer, I knew I wanted them to take some family photos in Milan before we moved back to America. But I procrastinated and procrastinated, (probably because I was in denial that we were actually moving home.) Suddenly we were packing and saying goodbye to friends and I realized I HAD to book Flytographer before we left Italy.
I’m so glad I did.
The process to book was so easy and everyone I communicated with were top-notch friendly folks. On their website you can pick the city and in some cities you have choices of photographers and can peruse their portfolio to find a style that you like.
Once you’ve chosen a photographer, you can then narrow in even further and fill out a few questions that give the photographer an idea of what you have in mind. Posed photos, candid, silly or serious they will capture your family or friends beautifully.
After you confirm the date and time and make your booking, your photo concierge emails you a “shoot scoop” with all the details. Where and when to meet, any details you want your photographer to know, and a photo of your photographer and their contact information so you know how to find them!
Our photographer was Paola. She was delightful and someone I feel I could easily talk to and become friends with. She went above and beyond when I called her with a last-minute location change due to my kids both having the stomach flu. (Ugh. what a way to exit Italy, huh?)
She met us at our hotel in Milan and we headed out. I wasn’t sure how it would feel, having a photographer tag along with us as we strolled the streets of the Navigli in Milan. Even though it felt like 500 degrees outside, we laughed and had fun and really enjoyed Paola’s company. She set up a few photos, but mostly walked and chatted with us while taking photos.
The kids were troopers, they lasted about 30 minutes in the heat and then begged to go back to the hotel and cool off. After we dropped them off, Paola, Chris and I walked to the Mercato Metropolitano to take some more photos. I don’t know when the last time was Chris and I had our photo taken just the 2 of us, and after 22 years of marriage it was fun to have some new photos taken.
Just a few days after our photo shoot, the photos appeared like magic in my inbox. So quick and easy, all ready for me to download and print out wherever I wanted. I adore them…
We believe memories are the best souvenirs.
I couldn’t agree more! This is the best souvenir I could ever imagine. It means the world to me on so many levels, they captured our time living in Milan so beautifully. I can’t thank Flytographer enough- I only wish I had taken them along with us on some of our other trips!
If you want beautiful, candid & natural photographs of your family & friends to enjoy and want to remember your trip fondly once you return home- try Flytographer. You will be so glad you did!
p.s. We purchased the 60 minute package from Flytographer and found it to be the perfect length of time for our family of 4.
