I don’t know that anyone would describe me as a “shopper”, but give me an Italian market, and I’ll be happy exploring and people watching for hours. One of the things I loved about living in Milan is the number of local neighborhood markets scattered all over the city at any given time.
There are some wonderfully interesting treasure hunts to be had at the monthly antique markets all over Italy as well. On our very first trip to Milan, we accidentally stumbled across the Milan Mercatone dell’Antiquariato lining the streets along the Navigli canals. This BIG antique market (hence the word Mercatone) is held the last Sunday of the month year around, and one we enjoyed returning to many times.
Head over to Browsing Italy, where I’m sharing more about 4 of my favorite antique markets in Northern Italy, along with my favorite places + things to eat in each location- perfect for a sunny weekend outing!
*Bonus: the other 3 markets are easy day trips from Milan and are all accessible by train!
